Check the disk SKU
Review provisioned IOPS and throughput limits for the selected disk type and size.
Check VM limits
The VM size can impose aggregate disk IOPS and throughput limits. Compare workload demand with the VM's published limits.
Review Azure Monitor metrics
Check disk read/write IOPS, bandwidth, latency and queue depth. Correlate spikes with application activity.
Check host caching
Validate whether the selected host caching mode matches the workload requirements. Database workloads may have different requirements from general file workloads.
Check guest behavior
Inside Windows, inspect disk queue length, storage latency and application I/O patterns.
Validate improvement
After resizing or changing the disk or VM tier, monitor metrics over a representative workload window.
